Bauer are a private Media Group and use Seymour, owners of Frontline distribution to distribute their products, they export titles in over 70 countries but are primaraly based in the UK which is probably why the majority of Bauers publications are being sold in the UK. Due to these reasons Bauer who also publish music magazines (Q , Kerrang and Mojo) would be the ideal publisher for my Media Magazine.

Interview magazine was founded by Andy Warhol in 1969. The American publication has been nicknamed The Crystal Ball of Pop, due to it being founded by the pop artist therefore the covers being as 'popish' as possible. Again the photo is a close up focusing on the cover stars good looks. The mast head stands out against the black and white background which makes the 'brand' of the magazine stand out and as a reprocussion makes the magazine easier to spot on a shelf. However there isnt much text on the front page and this cover goes against the left side third rule by putting text in the shape of a tear on the cover stars face.

Pop/chart music magazines;
Billboard
Q magazine
Rolling stone

House styles;
Billboard- The house style of Billboard is very colourful which reflects the pop industry. It shows shots of current artists in the pop charts and sometimes the cover stars hide the mast head of the magazine as its recognisable without all of it showing. The picture is a full shot which is uncommon for most magazines however they could have done this to get in the cover stars ‘costume’ as this would spark interest. Also Gaga isn’t looking directly at the camera, which suggests that something other than the buyer is important which makes the reader want to find out what it is.
Q magazine- Q magazines house style has cover stars from the same pop genre that Billboard do. However the colours aren’t the same they’re more dark and simpler, so this could appeal to a wider slightly older audience. The image on Q magazine is a bit larger than a mid-shot but it’s more focused on the cover stars face and body which could create sex appeal and arouse interest in the buyers mind. Here Gaga is looking directly at the camera (direct mode of address)/ reader which make us feel like she’s looking directly at you so you could feel a personal relationship with the cover star.
Rolling stone- Rolling stone’s magazine changes it’s lay out and covers depending on who the cover star is. The cover star is always known within the pop industry. The master heads font always stays the same which is symbolic for readers as they know straight away which magazine it will be. The shot for the rolling stone magazine is a mid-shot which fits in exactly what the publishers want us to see. Again bare flesh is exposed which creates sex appeal and Gaga’s looking away from the camera so it sparks the readers interest into what she’s looking at so they’ll want to buy it.

This is the cover of Face Magazine which is a British music, fashion and coulture magazine which was esablished around the 80's started by Nick Logan. Logan had previously created the teen pop magazine Smash Hits, and had been an editor at the New Music Express in the 1970s before launching The Face in 1980 which explains why the lifestyle magazine had strong undertones of music running through it. The cover star George Michael is pictured in a close up looking sternly at the camera which fits in with the plug as it is relivant to George Michael 's life giving the reader some insight into the pop stars life. Georges hair is styled and he seems to have on quite a expensive looking shirt. He looks tidy and attractive which is something readers look for in order to be attracted to the magazine. The Face was published monthly which could explain why it the cover looks quite minimal due to the amount of time editors were given to work on it. Also this cover is one from the 80's we can expect our covers to look a lot more professional due to the technology we now have. The Face magazine ceased publication in 2004 due to a decline in sales and therefore funds for further issues, so EMAP decided to pull the plug on the magazine. The Face was however featured in the V&A musuems Club to Catwalk expedition and their Postmodernism feature.

Pop magazine is a lifestyle magazine which frequently has Pop Stars as their cover stars. The cover is bright fun and the mise en scene used makes Elton John look extravigant and someone of high celebrity status. His costume is quite fun and something we'd expect of a pop star. Pop magazine is published bi-annualy which means it is only out twice a year. This could be because the cost of production or an attempt to make the magazine more exclusive. The logo/ mast head is just 'POP' which is very self explanatry due to the lifestyle magazine being about popular coulture. The colours are atractive, the yellow fits nicely with the pink and i feel it could get away with being mistaken for a music magazine due to the pop star and the name of the magazine. The editor Katy Grand said that her main concept was that "it to be really jolly. And pink — I was obsessed with it being pink." This cover seems to fit into the 'Pop' Genre and is something id like to take insperation from for my magazine. Pop Magazine is part of  The Bauer Publishing Group who publish a range of magazines ranging from Grazia to The Angeler Times.

The two polls on my home page will help me decide which genre of magazine to create, and what type of conventions people expect to see in a 'Pop' magazine which is my initial choice of magazine.
